Submission for SoJIE 12

Photographer members of the Solo Exhibition group on redbubble were recently invited to submit photographs for translation by painter members, to be shown in a later exhibition. I don’t have a huge number of images on redbubble, and even fewer that had previously been submitted to the group (one of the requirements), but my poppies image (left) did meet the requirements, so I submitted it for artists to consider.
Eventually Kathie Nichols requested permission to paint her version of the image, and after looking at her portfolio on redbubble I was delighted to accept, as I could see that she would understand the thought behind the image. It was interesting to see the various stages her painting went through until completion – I knew in theory some of the steps painters in oils and acrylics go through, but seeing them applied to a work based on one of my photographs gave more meaning to the theory. (No, I don’t paint!). I was delighted, too, by the final result, which you can see on redbubble at Wild Poppies by Kathie Nichols

  1. Thankyou so much Mike for giving me permission to paint your beautiful abstract macro nature photo. I really enjoyed the creative journey. I am so glad that you enjoyed viewing the steps of the painting process from the beginning sketch to the end. This has given me inspiration to return to painting. Since my photography took over a few years ago, my paints and brushes had gathered some dust, so now I will try to balance both and enjoy the creative process of photography and painting. Best wishes Kathie Nichols
